ABOUT
The hallmarks of Lizzie Standeven Interior Design are timeless schemes that elegantly combine colour, texture and pattern with antique and contemporary pieces.
As an artist, Lizzie is greatly influenced by colour and strongly believes in encouraging her clients to consider tones they may not normally have the confidence to use.
“I love using colour, texture and pattern, combining antiques alongside quirky or contemporary pieces, and finding a particular fabric, accessory or piece of furniture that really brings a scheme to life and makes it sing. I think it’s easy to underestimate how much interiors can change your mood and lift your spirits.”
From large scale projects to simple fabric orders for soft furnishings, Lizzie works on schemes of all budgets and sizes. Her view is that interior design should be enjoyable and fun, rather than intimidating and prohibitively expensive:
“Today, more than ever, we spend so much time in our homes and I love creating beautiful and comfortable spaces for my clients that reflect their personalities, are alive with colour and pattern, and - most importantly - are happy places for them to spend time in.

PROCESS
Lizzie starts with an initial telephone consultation or site/home visit, to determine the client’s needs and understand their style and personality. Whether it’s a large, full-scale project or help with smaller accessories, Lizzie works with her clients to their specified budget, creating spaces that reflect their individual tastes and character.
Brief:
If a room is to be entirely re-designed or several rooms are being redecorated, then Lizzie will take a brief and work through this with the client.
Colour Consultation:
Lizzie will visit the client’s house and consider natural light, lighting schemes, architectural features and the size and space of a room before suggesting a colour palette to enhance the room’s features.
Mood Boards:
Lizzie can provide mood boards, showing fabrics, trims, flooring, lighting, furniture, paint, wallpaper and accessories.
Interior Illustrations:
Lizzie is able to produce interior illustrations of rooms and their proposed design scheme. Lizzie is able to provide a drawing of the room and proposed design scheme to give the client the full visual impact of what the space will look like once redecorated. The illustrations are also lovely to keep for posterity.
Space Design:
In some cases, clients find it helpful if Lizzie creates a scale drawing showing sockets, lamps, furniture and built-in features which can be very helpful for tradesmen.
Working with builders:
Lizzie is able to work alongside building contractors to oversee work and help with full room installation.
Sourcing:
Clients also enlist Lizzie to source and order wallpapers, fabrics, decorative objects, furniture and lighting for projects they are undertaking themselves.
PHILOSOPHY
Born in Norfolk, Lizzie studied History of Art and Italian at the British Institute in Florence, before training at the KLC School of Design. She then worked for Mary Fox Linton and Percy Bass on a variety of different size and style of projects, before establishing her own eponymous business in 2007, after moving to North Yorkshire.
Lizzie is a provisional Associate Member of the British Institute of Interior Design. A keen artist, (having studied Portraiture at Heatherley School of Fine Art) in her spare time, Lizzie paints and sketches portraits, animals and landscapes, in watercolours, chalks and charcoals.
“I have always had a flair for colour and have been aware of interior decoration from a young age - my own mother is very creative and must have redecorated our house about three times over and is still redecorating now!” says Lizzie. “Making changes to a room scheme really showed me how it could impact people’s mood and as an artist I’ve always been very aware of the importance of colour. I love it when a client walks into their new space and instantly feels happier.”
Lizzie grew up heavily influenced by Sister Parish Interior Design and their great sense of style and colour. She loves mixing old and new, contrasting colours and patterns and layering textures to create confident schemes that will also stand the test of time.
